Family Snapshots

Here are some random pictures of our little family while we were hanging out with Michael and Kim. Enjoy!

Here is Danny in the grass. He actually didn't mind...

Until we turned him over! He almost turned himself over completely!

Boys will be boys!

And here is Kim with her awesome hair...couldn't forget that picture!!

School, Doctors and the Outdoors

Well, it's that time again...school is in session! Kenneth is starting his LAST year before he graduates with his BS in Mechanical Engineering. It is pretty ridiculous...after talking with his counselor he determined that he only needs to take 2 classes this semester and 1 class next semester. He is going to take an additional class this semester that will count towards his masters degree (he can take up to 6 grad level classes before he has graduated with his undergrad). I am SOO happy with how his schedule is working out because he will work T & Th only, and then he has school MWF until 11:30. Then the rest of the day he will be at home and can take care of Danny while I am working from home. LOVELY! I was really worried about how I would be able to get all my hours in at work...but this arrangement will help out so much!

As for Kenneth's work, it looks like he WILL be able to work full time with ATK as soon as he graduates!! The only problem is that as an intern (which he currently is) he can only work a total of 1000 hours before they would have to hire him on full time. He can't be hired full time until he has graduated, and because of how much he worked during the summer, he can only work 16 hours a week until his graduation in May. Thank goodness I'll still be working then! This whole situation will also be nice though because Kenneth would like to start doing photography professionally, and so, he will have a LOT more time to do that! We're excited!

As for an update on Danny, we went to the doctors yesterday and Danny (who is now 7 1/2 weeks old) is now up to 7lb 4oz! He is getting so big!! He is also 20.5 inches long. He is starting to outgrow some of his clothes! The only thing the doctor is still watching is his iron level. It is still a little low - nothing to worry about, but just watching. The doctor said that sometimes it takes 4-5 months for the iron level to regulate, so we'll just keep watching and see what it does.

Anyway, Danny is such a stinkin' cute little kid!! He is doing much better with his eating/sleeping schedule. He is starting to last a little longer in between his night feedings. He used to wake up every 3 hours, but now it is about every 4.5-5 hours. Kind of strange though...I feel more tired now than when I would wake up every 3 hours! Explain that for me!! He was starting to get used to being held when he would fall asleep, so I'm trying to fix that issue now. I do NOT want a baby who requires rocking and holding to fall asleep! It has led to some hard nights however, when I have to leave him crying for extended periods of time...but Kenneth keeps reminding me it will be for the best.

What else? I am happy to say that Kenneth and I have been able to still take advantage of the outdoors with Danny! We have already taken him on several hikes, and we've been able to go climbing a couple of times. We went last weekend with Stephanie and her boyfriend Justin (thanks for babysitting Alisha!!) and we sent climbing again with Stephanie last night. It was actually amazingly easy to take Danny with when we go climbing! He just slept in his car-seat the whole time, and we fed him a bottle when he was hungry. It was great! Apparently we need to do MORE climbing while he can stay in his car-seat!!

Here are some pictures from our recent hike on Mt. Olympus:

Danny Update - especially for Papa

Alright, I've had my wrist slapped...sorry for the lack of Danny updates Papa! Here you go!

Today we had a Dr. appt for Danny. He is now weighing 6lb 10oz. He's almost newborn size!! Yeah! Everything looks good. His hematocrit is still a little low, so he has to stay on iron fortified vitamins for awhile, but that's not a big deal. Also, because he is gaining steady weight, he is no longer required to have bottles! Whoo hoo!

Other than that, we are just enjoying our little guy. We have gone on a couple of hikes thus far, and are enjoying our time together at home. Kenneth takes care of the "fun" side, and I take care of the "snuggle" side of things. I must say that Heavenly Father blessed me with a VERY good baby!! He only ever cries when he is hungry, or if he gets cold at night from kicking off his swaddling blanket, so I always know what's wrong with him! He is starting to spend more time awake during the day, and it is fascinating to watch him look around taking everything in.

We still are not venturing out too often to public areas, and church is still definitely out of the question. When we attended Kenneth's sister's (Stephanie) homecoming talk, we tried to leave as soon as the prayer was done, and we were STILL bombarded by people! I felt like we were fighting people off as we tried to leave the building! So, yeah...still no church. Overall we are trying to switch off so we can at least attend Sacrament Meeting. Still trying to figure out when we will be blessing him as well.

Well, that's about it! Here are some pictures of our little guy!

Sad Day

Oh my goodness...this day all the sudden took a terrible turn...

1) Kenneth and I were out hiking up City Creek Canyon with Danny this evening. When we got back to the car, I noticed that our car window had been broken into, and the thief stole our diaper bag (of all things right?). I hate carrying around a purse AND a diaper bag, and I had my phone and wallet in it. ARG! The wallet was not in plain sight, so we were hoping that he/she just dumped it along the brush (I mean, who doesn't want a burp cloth, diapers, and a changing pad right?) - but no luck. Not only did I have credit cards in there, but I also had little things like Danny's growth charts and his little name tag/bracelets from when he was in the hospital! I wanted to keep those little keepsakes!! I AM TICKED! ARG! Anyway, we were calling the credit card companies, and the JERK already spent $75 at a local Rite Aid - and then, while we were still on the phone with this same credit card company, he/she tried to use the card again at a 7-11. Luckily it was denied since they already officially canceled it. One of the credit card companies' system is currently down, so they can't cancel the card...so I have to call them in the morning. I can't even imagine how much he is going to charge on that one before the night is through! Ridiculous.

2) I was writing on facebook about my dilemma when I found out some TERRIBLY sad news. As you know, I am currently on maternity leave, and so I am kind of out of the loop with the happenings at work. I found out that our HR manager - a sweet woman who worked RELENTLESSLY to help me with my maternity leave situation since Danny was in the NICU for so long - just lost her little 7 month old son. I cannot even imagine the pain and sorrow she and her husband are experiencing. It was a terrible accident that occurred. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose a child, and your only child at that. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.

3) This seems so minuscule compared to the situation listed above, but I learned tonight that there are major managerial changes happening at my work. It makes me kind of nervous since I will be working from home once my maternity leave is up. It also is hard because I was used to working with my manager Chris, who is amazing, and who was always willing to help me and be flexible with my situation. This is the manager who came to my house while I was in the hospital and who painted my baby room and mowed my lawn! Seriously how great is that! Anyway, I just hope that the new manager is understanding and is as wonderful to work with as the previous managers have been. Working from home is going to be kind of crazy with a baby, but I am determined to make it work...I just hope this new manager is willing to work with me...

Anyway, crazy and sad day overall. I can't believe that all of these things came about in just the last HOUR. Talk about draining.

2 week anniversary

Well, Danny has now been home for 2 weeks! I love having him here! I must say that there were a few very restless nights, but overall we are adjusting well! I am amazed at the human body and how it can adapt to different circumstances. I always got 8-9 hours of sleep a night, and now seem to be able to function off of only 4-5. I wouldn't be able to do it for any other purpose that's for sure! Anyway, Danny is growing and getting stronger every day! Today we had a doctor's appointment and these are the stats:

Weight: 6lb 1 oz - yeah! We've broken 6lbs!!
Height: 19.5 inches
Head Circumference: 13.2 in

Again, none of these stats are on the chart. Oh well. At least he is gaining each time we go in! Also, today was the big day when Danny got circumcised. Poor guy! He did really well for the most part...until the end when he screamed like there was no tomorrow. Then, afterward, he had to have blood drawn to check his anemia. The poor little guy was poked and prodded like none other. Needless to say, he has spent most of the afternoon sleeping. I think he was just tuckered out from all the crying and the series of traumatic events I made him endure.

Well, those are the main updates for little Danny. In other news, school is going to start again for Kenneth. The abundant number of textbooks which seem to arrive every day are bringing about the realization that life is about to get a LOT busier! We are really hoping that Kenneth will also be able to maintain his job at ATK during the school year. If he does, they would most likely hire him on as a full time engineer once he graduates in May. That would be AMAZING!! Besides that, we've been having fun spending time with Kenneth's sister, Stephanie who returned from her LDS mission in the Canada Montreal mission. She returned 1 week ago, and I have had a BLAST with her!! Anyway, that's about all! I'll try to keep this updated more regularly now that our little family has figured out a decent schedule. Until next time!

Danny's Nursery Wall

Kenneth was making fun of me for always writing "I promise to put up pictures" and then forgetting to do so...

Here is the room when we pulled up the old carpet. Who would have thought there would be linoleum underneath!

And here is it after the new carpet was installed.
