That was so funny! I'm sad to say though that some of that I am not aware of. I was familiar with quite a bit of it though!
Yup, I remember the wonder of watching the color peacock spread its tailfeathers in all shades of gray, when Elvis sang at the end of his weekly TV show, when shaggy wigs were purchased so guys could have hair cover the tops of their ears due to the craze of some rock group named after an insect (we love you yea, yea, yea!), when the hottest electronic gadget was the transistor radio (great for listening to the World Series during recess at school and you could almost fit it into your pocket), when entertainment was Walt Disney, Lawrence Welk, Red Skelton, Laurel and Hardy (I guess you might be seeing some parental influence here), the Three Stooges (NOT!), the REAL Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, watching Star Trek until you saw each episode at least 6 times, (did I mention Lassie, Gunsmoke, Have Gun will Travel, the Westerner, and that historical drama of the old west starting out with 20 mules teams pulling a load of borax?), listeneing to 45s, 78s and LPs, $.50 matinees at the $1.00 theatre (however, it did cost us $1.50 to watch Mary Poppins the first time - good thing we all got $2 bills for Christmas), building forts down at the creek to protect ourselves during mud clod battles and the ever ongoing battle of life occupying your time watering and pulling weeds in the garden (why do weeds always grow so much faster and healthier than the plants you planted?). For some strange reason, I thought the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew were big when I was young...but research shows they were old stuff before my day. I might have read a book or two of the Hardy Boys (my best friend's last name was Hardy), but no young man in his right mind would ever be caught with a Nancy Drew book in his hands (no we didn't have backpacks in those days either). But when all is said and done, at my age you really don't remember things all that well (brain loss)which can be entertaining in and of itself. Good thing NPR is encouraging people to record interviews with their family members -- someday it will be too late. So, although unspoken, here it is written and here it is sure to be forgotten. For now, it's on to Thanksgiving and red cabbage!
The brain finally woke up and now I remember that Borax show, it was Death Valley Days with Ronald Reagan.
That was so very funny! Weren't those the days? I remember almost ALL of that! Boy, does that age me...
